The 68th MPEG meeting will be held from Monday 15th to Friday 19th March 2004. Ad Hoc Group meetings will take place on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th March at the meeting venue by prior arrangement.

Location

The 68th meeting is hosted by the Lehrstuhl fuer Datenverarbeitung of the Technische Universitaet Muenchen.

 

Logistic Information

The Technische Universitat Munchen is located in the city center of Munich and surrounded by some of the most interesting museums for art in Germany, the Pinakotheken.
Using the subway it takes only a few minutes to get to the historical center of Munich (you may also take a 15 minute walk).
There are many restaurants and fast food spots in the university area it takes only about 5 minutes to get there. There is also a cafeteria serving several hot meals inside the university.

Local Transportation

Transportation from your Hotel to University (or any other place in munich) is easy with the very good public transport system using the subway which leaves at least every 10 minutes. You can buy a weekly ticket for only 13 Euro covering whole Munich.
 

Flights

Munich Airport is the second largest Airport in Germany and has direct connections to next to all places worldwide.
The easiest way to get from the airport to Munich city (30 km) is to take the "S-Bahn", which leaves at the airport every 10 minutes and is about 9 Euro.
Taking a taxi to Munich city center will be about 50-60 Euro.
 

Weather in March

It's early Spring in Munich which means that weather is not predictable: you still can have some snow (even if this is unlikely) or have some sunny days with up to 20° Celsius during the day.
We suggest that you prepare for this and take a short look at an international weather report before travelling.

Hotel

Reservations in several Hotels that can be easily reached by subway from the university have been made. These reservations (and the discount MPEG-Rates) are valid until February 12th, so please try to make your booking until then, as we can't guarantee the availability or the discount rates beyond this date.

Money

Germany currency is the Euro. For current exchange rates you may see http://www.oanda.com/convert/classic.
Major Credit Cards are widely accepted in hotels, restaurants and shops (Visa/Master usually also Amex/Diner).
 

Tipping

Tipping is not customary. It is at your own discretion and generally only for exceptional service. As a guide, add 7 to 10% to a restaurant bill.
 

Smoking

Smoking is not permitted within public buildings and is not permitted at all on public transport, including domestic air flights.
 

Shopping Hours

Most shopping centres are open from 9am to 8pm Monday through Friday, 9am to 6pm on Saturday. Stores are closed on Sundays.
 

Banking Hours

The banks are open at least from 9:30am to 4pm Monday through Friday.
