The 78th MPEG Meeting will take place 23 - 27 October 2006 at Vaton Yunqi Resort Hotel, Hangzhou, China. Meeting will be hosted by Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China. Additionally, AhG meetings will be held the weekend prior to the actual MPEG/JVT meeting. The exact meeting days are as follows:

Hangzhou, the capital of the Zhejiang Province, located in eastern China, at the south end of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal. As one of Chinese seven ancient capitals, it is one of the Chinese best-known domestic tourism cities and owns the name "Paradise".
When Marco Polo came to Hangzhou in the 13th century he acclaimed that "it is the most beautiful and elegant city in the world". There is also a popular saying: "Above there is heaven, below there is Hangzhou." Hangzhou’s "heavenly" beauty attracts hundreds of thousands of tourists to its exquisite West Lake (Xi Hu) vicinity each year, to enjoy the placid lake, beautiful gardens, reflecting pools, lavish temples and friendly lakeside teahouses. Hangzhou is also famous for silk and tea. Main tourists’ attractions include West Lake, Lingyin Temple, Feilai Peak, Pagoda of Six Harmonies, Yue Fei Tomb, Baoshu Pagoda, Huanglong Cave and Hulong Well.
The meeting rooms are available including the main auditorium with approximately 350 seats. Other meeting rooms can be inquired to secretary <jessicac@163.com>.
The meeting rooms are equipped with wireless Internet access and power plugs. Sub-group meeting rooms are equipped with projector, sound and microphone equipment. Meeting room requirements can be proposed through the online meeting room reservation system by sub-group chairs.
Other equipment includes computer room(s) with printing facilities and wireless/wired Internet access.
Registration and hospitality desk
The registration has to be made online via http://www.mpeg78.org/. The registration includes access to meeting rooms, free Internet access, and social event. Furthermore, coffee breaks (twice a day) and lunch during the MPEG meeting (Mon-Fri) are included also.
Facilities fee:
¥3800.00 for early birds (until August 31, 2006)
¥4200.00 for regular registration
Only Chinese cash is accepted for on-site registration.
Additional tickets for social event: ¥400.00 for each additional person.
Cancellation policy:
Cancellation before 15th September 2006: 96% Refund after the conference (there is 4% credit card charge)
Cancellation before 30th September 2006: 50% Refund after the conference
Cancellation after 30th September 2006: No Refund

Social event:
The social event will take place at "SongCheng Park" –the first largest and biggest theme park featuring the civilization of Song Dynasty in China.
The social event will be on Wednesday, October 58. SongCheng Park is about 300 meters away from the Zhejiang University – within 5 minutes walking distance. You will surely enjoy the evening, the park and a fantastical show < The Romance of the Song Dynasty >- singing and dancing performance with acrobatics, based on the historical allusions and mythologies in ancient Hangzhou.
1, In the second scene of Shining Spears and Armored Horses, some sounds of cannon might be fearful. People who are easy to get heart attack please contact the conference secretary afore to get in-time remind or do not attend this scene.
2, People being seated in the front seats might be affected by stage effect. We suggest those who have respiratory diseases contact the conference secretary before Wednesday.
3, Please take good care of your bags during the show and in the park.
Hotel accommodation and shuttle service
Rooms have been negotiated with hotels close to the meeting venue. Participants can make their own reservation online through the registration at http://www,mpeg78.org. A shuttle service will be organized to bring delegates to the meeting venue and from/to hotels listed on the meeting Web site. The shuttle service is free of charge and a detailed schedule will be posted on the meeting Web site.

R The main train station is situated near the city center, and the main long-distance bus station is on Hushu Nan Road to the north of the city.

R Taxi fare: First 3 kilometers or less takes RMB10.0Yuan, each additional kilometer within 10 kilometers takes RMB 2 Yuan; each additional kilometer beyond 10 kilometers takes RMB 3 Yuan.
R At 16:00-18:00 it might not be easy to rent a taxi.
Visa information
Visas are required for all foreigners entering mainland China. Standard tourist visas, valid for 30-day visits, are generally easy to acquire. Visitors are advised to consult their travel agent, China International Travel Service, China Travel Service, any PRC Embassy or Consulate for details.
In order to obtain a visa to attend the event, the local host will be glad to assist you with an official invitation letter, please let us receive your request (including full name, passport number) as early as possible. Please fill in the part of "Invitation letter needed" in the online registration form.

Approximately two and half hours drive from Shanghai on a 6 lane highway or two hours flying time from Beijing. Hangzhou is bound to the south by the Qiantang River.

Meals
Lunch will be provided in the hotel during the MPEG meeting week. A guide to restaurants in Hangzhou will be provided with the “welcome package”. Hangzhou boasts the name of City of Gourmet Food with a long history of cuisine culture. Hangzhou cuisine belongs to the cooking style of Zhejiang, picking on fresh materials, elaborate processing and focusing on natural flavor.
Currency & Credit Cards
The unit of currency in China is called RenMinBi (RMB). With 100 fen = 1 RMB. Credit cards, including VISA and Master Card are accepted in major hotels, department stores as well as larger restaurants.
