A presentation was given by the DIN Delegate at the SC34/WG1 on the actual status of the development of the Technical Report that focuses on Office Open XML and Open Document Format Translation. The report will start by studying common use cases to identify how the most important functionalities of one document format can be represented in the other format. The technical report will do a thorough review of the concepts, architectures and various features of the two document formats in order to provide a good understanding of the commonalities and differences. We expect that functionalities will be able to be translated with different degrees of fidelity to the other format. We will provide, for each functionality, detailed information on the extent of which that functionality can be translated. This report is a necessary step to the goal of helping achieve interoperability and harmonization between the two formats. Once the differences are found, further evolution of both formats can be done to improve interoperability.
The DIN Delegate informed SC34/WG1 that AFNOR is launching an initiative in order to work with DIN on Office Open XML and ODF translation and Interoperability.
This report will be submitted by DIN to SC34 as a new work item proposal within the next days.
