Room Rate: A block of rooms has been reserved at the Hotel Vancouver. The sleeping room rate is $250.00 Canadian dollars (approximately 165 US dollars as of March 1, 1999) for single/double occupancy. It is essential that you make your reservations directly with the hotel by mentioning you are with the ISO conference to obtain the group rate.

Reservations must be made no later than May 28, 1999.

Special offer: If The Hotel Vancouver has received at least 125 reservations for the meeting by April 11, the hotel will pick up a name out of the reservations made and that person will receive 5 nights complimentary stay at the hotel. If fewer than 125 reservations are made by April 11, there will be no drawing.

Airport Information: Vancouver International Airport is a full service International Airport. .

Local Transportation: The Airporter provides transportation from the airport to Hotel Vancouver. When you clear customs, step outside of that area and you will see the lime green bus which says YBR Airporter. For domestic arrivals, simply step outside the baggage area and look for the bus. The bus departs every 15 minutes. One-way charges are $10.00 and $17.00 for roundtrip. No reservations required. 1-800-668-3141

Directions: From Vancouver International Airport, follow signs to City Center via Granville Street. Follow Granville Street until you have crossed the Granville Street Bridge. Once over the bridge, turn left on Drake Street. Follow Drake Street for two blocks to Hornby Street and turn right. Proceed along Hornby Street to the Hotel Vancouver and turn left into the main entrance.

Vancouver

Vancouver has been acclaimed as one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Majestic snowcapped mountains and ancient evergreen forests stretch on into the sparkling blue Pacific. Oceanside parks leads the way to sandy beaches. Vancouver was voted the most livable city in the world.

Hotel Vancouver

Hotel Vancouver is a dedicated heritage building and city landmark, located in the heart of the city. Museums, shopping and the theatre district are within minutes of the hotel.

Travel Documents

Foreign visitors entering Canada must be in possession of a valid passport. Participants from countries requiring a visa should apply to the Canadian consular offices or diplomatic missions in their home countries.

Transportation to and around Vancouver

BC Transit operates buses, the SkyTrain and the Seabus which will take you anywhere you want to go in Vancouver. The Aquabus ferry offers transportation to Granville Island.

Weather in Vancouver

The climate in Vancouver is mild and enjoyable most of the year. The average temperature in July is around 69° F/ 20° C.

Attire

Dress is mostly casual in Vancouver, business attire is worn, but restaurants generally are accustomed to serving both formally and casually attired customers. In general, wear what you feel most comfortable in.

Dining

Restaurants perched on mountaintops, revolving restaurants, European-style sidewalk cafes, coffee shops and intimate bistros. Vancouver offers superb cuisine from anywhere in the world.

Tipping

Tipping is customary for many travel and dining services in the Canada. Here are some guidelines:

Recreation

Any activity you can think of is close by, year round in Vancouver from skiing, golfing, kayaking, hiking, etc.

Currency

Legal tender is the Canadian dollar; there are 100 cents in one dollar. As of March 1, 1999, one US dollar is approximately equivalent to 1.52 Canadian dollars.

Exchange

The Hotel Vancouver can cash Travelers Checks at the Front Desk.

Banks

Major banks are open from 9:30am to 4pm, Monday through Friday. They close on Saturday and Sunday and public holidays. Some banks and branches are open slightly longer hours; some banking services are not available an hour before closing.
